CBE Approach
Competency-Based Learning
Our educational approach is centred on developing capable, confident, and well-rounded learners who can apply what they learn in meaningful, real-world contexts. We nurture practical capabilities through the integration of core values such as Resilience, Respect, Curiosity, Kindness, and Honesty across every learning area.
Learner progress is continuously supported and monitored through a balanced combination of School-Based Assessments (SBA), assessment portfolios, projects, and national assessments such as the KJSEA at Grade 9, providing a holistic picture of each learner’s growth, abilities, and potential. At the heart of this approach are the seven core competencies of the Competency-Based Curriculum, which equip learners with the skills and confidence to communicate, think critically, create, collaborate, adapt, and thrive in an ever-changing world.
The 7 pillars include:
Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving
Learners are taught to analyse, question, and reason through real-world problems.
Creativity & Imagination
CBE nurtures creative expression across all subjects, encouraging learners to find inventive solutions and think beyond boundaries.
Communication & Collaboration
Group activities and project-based learning develop teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills, while strengthening learners’ ability to express ideas confidently through oral, written, and digital communication.
Citizenship
Learners develop a strong sense of responsibility, respect, and active participation in their communities, preparing them to become ethical, informed, and responsible citizens.
Digital Literacy
Learners develop the skills to use digital tools confidently, responsibly, and creatively, preparing them to navigate technology and the digital world effectively.
Learning to Learn
Learners develop curiosity, independence, and lifelong learning habits, equipping them with the confidence and skills to seek knowledge, solve problems, and adapt to new challenges.
Self-Efficacy
Learners build confidence in their abilities, encouraging them to take initiative, overcome challenges, make decisions, and believe in their capacity to succeed.
